Piano Lesson Attendance Policy
Regular attendance at piano and keyboard lessons is an issue of responsibility and choice on the
part of students and their parents. The policies at Hillside Music reflect our desire to help students maintain
consistency in lesson attendance.
Missed Piano Lessons

Student Absences - We will make every effort to schedule make-up lessons
for excused cancellations made by the student. A lesson cancellation is excused if at least a 24-hour notice is
given. Lessons canceled by the student without a 24-hour notice may be made up only at the discretion and
availability of the instructor.
Instructor Absences - If the instructor needs to cancel a piano lesson,
he will arrange for a makeup session. If an arrangement cannot be made, the student will be credited for those
lessons the following month.
Holiday Schedules
The Hillside Music studio will be closed on the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The studio
will be open for lessons on all other holidays, unless you receive prior notification otherwise. If you will be
gone on a holiday other than Thanksgiving or Christmas, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. We will do
our best to schedule you for a make-up lesson. Please keep in mind that there are no rate
reductions due to our already low flat monthly rate.
Piano Lessons During the Summer Months
Hillside Music is a private piano studio, and does not follow any type of "academic school
year", therefore, piano lessons continue as usual during the summer months. However, we understand that many
families enjoy vacation time during the summer months. Please let us know well in advance of your vacation dates,
so we can adjust the teaching schedule.
If a student will be taking more than two weeks off during the summer, we reserve the right to
fill their time slot. A slot may be held up to one month with a 50% payment of the missed time. It is recommended
that students not take the whole summer off unless necessary as they often lose progress due to the absence and
lack of practice.
Piano Lesson Arrival & Departure
If you should arrive at Hillside Music early for your scheduled lesson time, please wait until
no earlier than five minutes before your scheduled time before entering the studio. Students are entitled to
privacy during their piano or keyboard lessons. Please work to extend to one another this very important
courtesy.
Parents who must be absent during a lesson should be prompt in picking up their child after
his/her lesson. Parental participation is generally beneficial to the student and we prefer parents to
remain in attendance during the piano lesson.
Siblings
The piano lesson time must remain as focused as possible. Siblings are welcome to attend
provided they remain still and quiet. It is very difficult to teach while a sibling is moving around and making
noises during a lesson. Parents should take the initiative to remove a sibling from the studio should this
situation begin to arise. We have some legos available for siblings to play with, or parents may wish to
bring other quiet activities.
Policies Subject to Change
These policies are subject to change.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions about our attendance policies. We'll
be happy to assist you in any way that we can.
